Acne and acne scarring

Acne is a disorder of the sebaceous gland. It can cause significant inflammation in the skin with the potential for scarring. Acne needs to be treated quickly and effectively to avoid secondary scarring of the skin.

Acne affects 8 out of 10 people. We are seeing more and more cases of teenage and adult acne due to a combination of dietary and lifestyle factors. Most cases of acne nowadays are resistant to antibiotic therapy due to global antibiotic overuse.

Dr Ward specialises in the treatment of acne and is a Key Opinion Leader in this field.

Consultations will include a detailed medical, drematological, lifestyle and dietary history and will include a thorough skin examination with medical photography.

A personalised treatment plan will likely include medicated topical skin preparations, chemical peels, advanced facials and/or treatments like ablative radiofrequency and LED light therapy. A dietary and lifestyle plan will also be prescribed.

Acne scarring can seriously affect an individual’s self esteem. There are many potential and effective treatments for acne scarring that can help the skin resurface. Any active acne must be treated before a scarring treatment regime can commence.
